Loukko aims to recognize varying dimensions of accessibility, such as physical, social and financial accessibility. Loukko is meant for everyone who wants to enjoy the variety of art and culture by doing or experiencing it. We strive to improve our accessibility and update information here and in event descriptions.
Loukko and all who visit the space commit to following the safer space policies – there is zero tolerance for racism, sexism and other forms of discrimination, violence, and all other kinds of violations of personal space. Loukko’s staff will intervene if needed and you may ask the staff for help!
Loukko aims to make the space as physically accessible as possible, more info further on this page.
A ramp of 1300 mm in width leads to the front door from the street. The ramp’s slant is approximately 8 degrees or 7%. The bannister of the ramp is 900 mm high, and begins from the middle of the ramp. The door frames are 1000 mm wide. Between the ramp and the vestibule there is a doorstep 50 mm high. From the vestibule to the space there is a 30 mm doorstep. The ramp’s steepness may be hard to maneuver alone with a non-motorized wheelchair. The door does not have an electronic opening button, but is kept open when the weather allows for it. Staff will help when needed!
Loukko’s lower floor serves as an office space, backstage and staff break room. Basement Bureau also occupies the lower floor on its active days. Unfortunately the lower floor is not accessible with some mobility aids. The stairs have six steps and there is a two-part handrail next to them on the wall (right side when going down).
The stage in Loukko is 2 meters deep, 4 meters wide and 20cm high. We have a portable ramp that can be used to access the stage. The ramp carries 272kg and is 74cm wide.
Entry fees and pricing
Loukko’s events aim to be free of charge or low-priced so that money won’t be an obstacle in enjoying art. Entrance fees are often on a sliding scale, and the sum paid is not questioned.
During regular opening times, Loukko is a free space – you can hang out without buying anything!
Loukko serves lunch a few times a week with a sliding price of 3-6 euros by your own choice. The lunch can also be redeemed with pre-paid solidarity tickets found at the counter. By buying a solidarity ticket you are offering someone else lunch!
Lunch is always vegan. We use surplus ingredients that would otherwise go to waste when possible. Lunch is served for as long as there is food left. Lunch days can be found from our calendar and timetable.
You can pay with cash or card. The card reader also has a contactless payment option.
Lunch and coffee can be redeemed with solidarity tickets found at the counter. By buying a solidarity ticket you are offering someone else lunch or a coffee! Loukko offers one solidarity lunch and coffee a day.
Loukko’s maximum capacity is about 80 people. During normal activity there are about 30 seats.
Depending on the event, there may be a few rows of audience seats in front of the stage and seats with tables further from the stage. It may be difficult to get around with larger mobility aids when the space is full during an event. You can inform the organizer of an event that you’re coming with mobility aids, and you will be reserved a place.
Don’t touch others or their aids without permission!
Age limits and alcohol
Loukko hosts both sober events and those with alcohol sales. The allowed area for alcoholic drinks ends at the front door, so you may not take alcoholic drinks outside.
Our activities are mostly for all ages, but in some events with alcohol sales we may mark the hands of underage visitors. Prepare to certify your age with proper identification (document with date of birth and photograph) if you are going to buy alcohol. We will inform of events with age limits clearly in our web calendar, Facebook events and timetable.
In general we keep lunch and other activities in the beginning of the week sober, please respect this!
Loukko is aware of the diversity of gender and personhood. We don’t assume anyone’s gender in our space or activity, and our toilets are not gendered.
There are a total of three toilet stalls, and none of them are gendered. Each stall has a bin. There are free menstrual products, safe sex products, and booklets about sexuality and its safe expression in the space outside the stalls. You may come just to use the toilet!
There is a small slope and doorstep leading up the toilets. The doorway’s width is 91cm at its least wide. The slope’s length is 30cm + the doorstep’s length is 2,5cm. The doorstep is about 1,5cm high.
The middle one of the three toilets is fitted for those with mobility aids and assistants. Its doorway is 1000mm wide. The stall is unfortunately only spacious on the other side; when seated, the left side of the stall has 800mm of free space. The space between the edge of the toilet seat and the closed door is about 660mm. The stall has a hand support frame. The frame is not attached to the floor.
The left stall has its own sink, bidet shower, and childcare table. The table can hold up to at least 7 kilograms of weight.
Allergies and food
All food served in Loukko is vegan, meaning it does not include any animal products such as meat, egg, dairy or honey. You can ask for a list of ingredients at the counter.
There is a microwave oven in Loukko’s kitchen. Ask to use the microwave oven!
Loukko is frequently visited by dogs and sometimes cats, so despite cleaning there may be fur or other allergizing residue left in the space.
Children of all ages are welcome to Loukko! Carriages can fit into the space unless there is a large event on. Loukko has one wooden feeding chair. The left toilet stall has a childcare table for small children. The table can hold up to at least 7 kilograms of weight.
Animal friends are welcome to Loukko, but be considerate of others in the space when coming with an animal. For example, an excited dog should be kept close to you, if you don’t know how others in the space react to dogs. We are happy to offer a bowl of water to animal pals, ask for one if needed!
